Find a feeling – Blue
Blue is the warmest colour
Here at LZF we love feeling blue. Matter of fact blue is one of our favourite colours, and if you look at the images of our blue lamps insitu, you can see why we love it so much.
Nothing quite captures the summer vibe here in Valencia as blue. It’s the hue of our wide Spanish skies. It’s a balmy blue evening sipping down a cold margarita and tasting the salt on your lips. It’s a blue sailing boat on the turquoise Balearic Sea.
And while we concede that Picasso’s Blue Period from 1901 to 1904 wasn’t exactly cheerful (his first blue painting was titled Casagemas in His coffin) there’s no getting around the fact that these sombre blue works are now some of his most popular.
Here’s just a couple other blues that we love:
David Lynch’s 1986 film-noir Blue Velvet, starring Dennis Hopper, Kyle MacLachlan and the beautiful Isabella Rossellini. Intriguing and undeniably disturbing, Blue Velvet boasts one of the most haunting scenes in the history of films; Dean Stockwell lip-sinking Roy Orbison’s In Dreams while Frank Booth (Hopper) looks on.
Blue Note Records is the coolest jazz record label ever. No argument. Established in 1939, Blue Note represented the calibre of Hank Mobley, Bud Powell, Sonny Clark, and Horace Silver & the Jazz Messengers. Apart from Rithma, nothing sums up the LZF feel more than Blue Note.
And while we’re on the subject of jazz, Kind of Blue, released on August 17 1959 by Columbia Records is the definitive jazz record of all time. Miles Davis captured the spirit of a generation and ran with it.
Finally, our favourite animal just has to be the blue whale. At 30 metres in length and weighing 170 tonnes or more, it is the biggest creature that ever lived. Bigger than the biggest dinosaur even. It’s one big mamma.
So are we feeling blue today? You betcha.
