Biennale Interieur 2014 at Kortrijik … She’ll be apples!
LZF heads to Belgium…and this time it’s not for the beer.
Kortrijik, the largest city in southern west Flanders is famous for many things. For a start there was once a bloody big argument there called the Battle of the Golden Spurs. It took place on the fields of Groeninge in 1302 when a bunch of pitch-fork wielding farmers beat the living daylights out of Philip the Fair’s fancy-pants knights (the victory is celebrated as a national holiday by the Flemish).
But our trip to Kortrijik has nothing to do with visiting the site of some ancient skirmish; not at all. The truth is we’re going for the delicious apple cake. While Kortrijik has many local specialities that temp LZF’s fancy; among them the chocolate and the biscuits, and better still the chocolate biscuits. What really turns us on is the Kalletaart – a quite scrumptious applecake with Calvados (apple brandy).
So we are quite excited by the prospect of exploring Kortrijik, seeking out the very best Kalletaart and devouring it back in our hotel room.
During our tart-based-tour of Kortrijik, we thought we might as well make an appearance at the prestigious design biennale. It’s a show we’ve always wanted to visit, but missed out on in previous years, due to clashing with our local fair in Valencia. Matter of fact, we’ve decided to set up our famous Stereovision exhibition booth at Kortrijik and exhibit along side our good Belgium friends; Dark lighting.
“We’ve always wanted to go to the Biennale in Kortrijik and finally we’re doing it,” says Sandro. “This year we’ll be among 300 selected international design brands, spread over 6 halls. It’s going to be huge.”
From small beginnings way back in 1968, the Kortrijik Biennale has become one of the largest and most important in Europe. Previous guests of honour have included the calibre of Gio Ponti, Verner Panton, Philippe Stark and Jean Nouvel.
The event will be held from October 17-26. Drop by the LZF booth and say hello.
