LZF Pendant Lamp – The Best Prescription: Walgreen Offices
LZF pendant lamp in the offices of Walgreen; American largest pharmaceutical drug retail chain.
We were incredibly thrilled to supply two of our signature handmade wood veneer pendant lamps to none other than Walgreens, the largest drug retailing chain in the United States, and not because we were hoping to get a discount on prescriptions.
Walgreens enlisted the services of Washington-based firm JPC Architects to come up with a commercial office space design that would reflect their recent acquisition of the technology-based Drugstore.com. Our friends at JPC realised it was important to create an environment that captured both the historical legacy of Walgreens (the company kicked off in Chicago in 1901) while looking towards a high-tech future on the internet.
And so traditional old-school drug store materials were utilised throughout the design; including brick, reclaimed timber and porcelain tiles. We love the mosaic soda fountain in the main staff lunchroom, evoking strong childhood memories.
The juxtaposition of past and present was created through the treatment of walls and floors, with contemporary steel panels cutting through the old and merging with the new. The colour scheme was kept simple and monochromatic, punctuated by splashes of red and blue – the branding colours of Walgreen and Drugstore.com – producing dynamic collaboration areas.
LZF’s gorgeous LINK pendant lamp, designed by the Celtic mega-talent Ray Power (winner of Ireland’s Dancing with the Stars) hangs proudly in two of the collaboration zones, perfect for a staff meeting or brainstorming session. The architects selected the LINK because its interwoven form of piled Mobius Strips reflects the seamless merging of the two companies, old and new, past and present. Very fitting we feel.
The Project also features a Sioux pendant lamp by Miguel Herranz, while discontinued for the moment, may make a return soon.
We feel the project looks great, But still, if you take a look at the LINK´s in the photographs above and below, we’re sure you’ll agree, that LZF pendant lamps really are the only designer drug you’ll ever really need.
