A cloud-like canopy of striking LZF Pod and Poppy pendant lamps help make an impressive entrance at GinYuu restaurant in Stuttgart. Suspended above a simple wood reception, the pendants extend a warm welcome to visitors.

GinYuu is a concept restaurant from restauranteur Kent Hahne, co-founder of Vapiano, the buoyant Italian-themed eatery with numerous venues worldwide. At GinYuu, the focus is on pan-Asian Pacific fare (think sushi, noodles and rice), offered in a space that marries the simplicity, smells and sounds of Asian cooking with a clean and cosy design palette. GinYuu describes its interior as “industrial meets Asia”.

Currently there are three GinYuu restaurants (in Bonn, Stuttgart and Essen). GinYuu Stuttgart is located in the Milaneo, the city’s largest shopping centre. Inviting patrons to leave the centre behind, GinYuu provides an immediately distinct sensory experience. Designed by the Stuttgart-based Ippolito Fleitz Group design studio, an emphasis has been placed on using wood throughout the space. With its calming and nurturing properties, wood is the perfect material to encourage relaxation. At the same time, wood in varied forms and hues, as applied across the GinYuu Stuttgart interior, helps present a contemporary Asian theme: the outcome is a clever contrast of East meets West.

The spatial arrangement is conducive to a miscellany of social contexts, from a conversational open bar counter to lounge seating and more secluded cubicles. Importantly, Ippolito Fleitz has carefully considered the selection of lighting throughout.

Varied configurations of LZF’s Pod and Poppy pendants hang in choice areas at GinYuu Stuttgart. Designed by German-born designer Burkhard Daemmer, the handmade wood Pod and Poppy lights appear as floating sculptures, their elliptical forms and curvy lines both dashing and elegant. Pod and Poppy make a perfect combination: in sync, they rise and fall, as dancers meshed in harmony and closely attuned. Their appearance at GinYuu Stuttgart is one that will surely receive much acclaim.
