Hotel Waldegg

We didn’t know a whole lot about Switzerland before we were enlisted to supply our lamps to the charming Hotel Waldegg; only that most of the population was woken punctually each morning by cuckoo clocks, the workers existed on a diet of Toblerone chocolate bars and cheese fondue, and that making fun of yodelling was a crime punishable by death.

So imagine our surprise when we turned up in the monastic township of Engelberg, to discover that only one of those things was actually true (The yodelling bit). Indeed Engelberg, the location of the Hotel Waldegg, is one of the most beautiful mountain resorts in central Switzerland.

Hotel Waldegg

Nowadays the town is mostly visited by folks who like to hurl themselves down ridiculously steep snow-covered mountains with a piece of wood strapped to each foot and a stick in each hand. After which they retire to a bar to drink warm wine and still their nerves.

In the past Engelberg was better known for its Benedictine monastery; a place of spirit and learning that once boasted 20,000 volumes and 200 manuscripts in its library (before being pilfered by the French in 1798).

During the early years of the 20th Century Engelberg became famous as an international vacation resort, frequented for its fresh air cures and mineral water.

The Hotel Waldegg continues this tradition as a place of rest and rejuvenation, with views extending over the valley towards the imposing Titlis Massif.

The hotel restaurant, headed up by chef Marcel Syfrig, was recently revamped and we were chuffed to have been asked to supply the lighting. We’re sure you’ll agree our Spiro and Nut illuminations look super elegant above the dining tables, while the Air and Orbit are an excellent choice for splashing light up the walls.

The organic forms and rich cherrywood veneers help to warm the alpine ambience of this very special venue.

Yodelayheehoo!
