Berlin: United by Light

November 23, 2014 9:18 am Published by

A city once divided comes together under light.

All free men, wherever they may live, are citizens of Berlin. And therefore, as a free man, I take pride in the words ‘Ich bin ein Berliner!’

John F Kennedy spoke these famous words on June 26, 1963 in West Berlin. It had been 22 months since the Soviet-supported East Germany had erected a wall to prevent mass emigration to the West.

The Berlin Wall remained the defining symbol of the Cold Wall for almost 30 years Finally, on November 9, 1989, the wall came down and Berlin was once again a free city.

On the 25th anniversary of the Fall of the Wall, Berlin celebrated as all free men celebrate – with light.

The original path of the wall that separated Berlin in two was created by an ethereal pathway of thousands of illuminated balloons – a LICHTGRENZE.

As lovers of light, LZF applauds the creative vision of Christopher and Marc Bauder in making the anniversary such an emotionally poignant success.
