Ask people which burb boasts the most million dollar homes in Southern California and the majority would answer Beverly Hills. They’d be very wrong. In fact Manhattan Beach, just south of LA, has more homes over the magic million in SoCal than any other area.

Not bad for a place that started out as windswept sand dunes. Then in the 1920s and 30s developers levelled the sand (with much of the excess shipped off to Waikiki Hawaii to create the famous beach we now know) and flogged off the land.

Today Manhattan Beach is home to some frighteningly serious money. Celebrity residents include actors Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, as well as model Tara Reid, and perennial tennis screamer Maria Sharapova.

In 2011 CNN Money named the beach as the Number One best Place for the Rich and Single.

Thankfully, the client who approached the stellar architects from Beach House Design and Development belongs to this genre.

Not only that, the client obviously has impeccable taste too, because they chose to live with a pair of hand-crafted Link Lamps (designed by the thinking woman’s crumpet Ray Power) suspended teasingly in the bedroom.

The Link Lamp is quickly becoming the sexy-time light of choice for a generation of broad minded individuals who have come to see the bedroom as more than a place to just play with your Kindle.

Created from FSC wood veneer – like all the lamps in the LZF range – the Link is ready, willing and able to take you to places you never dreamed possible.

Places like Manhattan Beach.
