What is the KOI?

March 30, 2011 8:16 pm Published by

So… what’s this KOI thing about anyway?
Well, KOI means a lot of things, and sums up a lot of moments.
But… is it an idea, a fish, a design, a drawing, a lamp?
I guess if you want to know what it is, first you have to know it’s history.
Ok, go on…
In 2010 we presented the Armadillo lamp prototype designed by Luis Eslava. We were really impressed with the reaction and since then we knew it’d star in 2011.
Right, so you thought of some graphic design concept  that’d explain it and…
No, it is much more than that! This is a unique project for us, with its own sensibility. The Armadillo skin suggested a new constructive form to us, a type of fabric. We started imagining what kind of back drop could surround it and, letting our imagination drift, we reached an imaginary lake surrounded by haze, it surface shimmering with thousands of reflections of light in the water. Don’t the wooden shingles that make up our Armadillo lamp remind you a little of fish scales ?
Yes, they sure do! They make me think of movement, design, fantasy…
That’s it !! You’re getting closer. This idea began to form and thanks to the cooperation of Inocuo studio the whole tale started to take shape. But while I tell you more about it, think, movement, design and fantasy is…
I know, film!
 (… to be continued…)

—¡Cine!
